Willie Bain’s campaign volunteers and supporters got a surprise visit from Eddie Izzard today, as the comic dropped into the Labour headquarters to lend his support to the campaign.

The last 24 hours of the campaign are set to be the busiest yet.

It is not the first time the pair has met. When running charity marathons over the summer Mr Izzard passed through Glasgow and literally ran into Willie Bain and his campaign team on Springburn Road. The chance encounter was pictured in the local paper, the Springburn Herald.

Eddie Izzard said:

"I met Willie by chance on the run, so when he asked me to come and speak to his campaign team, I was very happy to.

"He tells me the last days of a campaign are always the most important so I wanted to lend my support. His campaign team have been busy stuffing envelopes and doing all the other things for polling day.

"I know by-elections are always close but I wish Willie all the luck in the world.”

Willie Bain added:

"Eddie is playing at the SECC tonight, where the ballots are going to be counted tomorrow. So I asked him to come along and meet my campaign team and thank them for all the work they’ve done.

"It’s a great boost for morale and a great way to go into the last 24 hours.

"This election is going to be close and I will be fighting for every vote to ensure we have a local voice that stands up for our area."
